Dean Kamen
Dean Kamen, innovator of US FIRST Robotics is an innovator and tireless advocate for science and technology. His passion and determination to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of science and technology are the cornerstones of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). His works were just recently honored in November 2009 in the Breakthrough Awards by Popular Mechanics. Our team leadership had the privilege of being there when he was bestowed with this honor. He founded FIRST in 1989, Manchester, NH to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology.
His program lead to motivate young people to pursue an education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, friendship and life skills. Dean Kamen studied at the college of Worchester Polytechnic Institute, deciding to go on to making his inventions he dropped out of college to pursue his dream. Many of Deans inventions are the future today. Many of his inventions included the robotic arm, Segway Pt, water purifier, and many others. He is currently working on solar powered technology with his company DEKA. He holds over 400 patents worldwide for his innovations. Setting a goal for young students to go into engineering fields, he has done an outstanding effort through his programs and creations.
