Breakaway 2010

The game Breakaway is played on a 27 feet by 54 feet field with 2 bumps and 2 towers from the center of the bump. The two bumps divide the field into three areas that the robots will be in and there are two goals on each side making four goals in total in this game. The human players are positioned outside the arena while the robots are positioned in the arena. The objective of the game is to get a higher score than the opposing alliance by shooting a standard soccer ball into a goal, climbing on the alliance tower or platform and/or by lifting an alliance robot off the field. Each game is played with two different teams (the red alliance and the blue alliance) and there are three robots on each team making a total of six robots per game.

For each robot, there are three players in the driver station that control the robots actions. During the first 15 seconds of play the robots are in autonomous mode which means that they drive on their own without the help of any human players. After the 15 seconds are up, the robots are then out of autonomous mode and are teleoperated for the remaining 2 minutes of the game. When the soccer balls are scored into the goal, the human players remove them from the goal and hands them to the human player that controls the trident. The player with the trident takes the ball puts it on the return rack in order to keep it in play. The finale is the final 20 seconds of the match which means that the robots must go to their tower to receive points.

When a ball is scored in a goal it is worth one point. When a robot is elevated from the ground by hanging on the tower is worth two points. And when a robot is suspended from the ground by hanging on a robot that is elevated from the ground is worth 3 points. The alliance with the most points will advance to the next round and compete against a new team.
